Felix Lesiuk sweeps awards at the WMRC's 2026 banquet

Felix Lesiuk (L) is seen being presented the best in show modelling award from WMRC spring show chair Murray Brown at the club's annual banquet.

Felix Lesiuk was the big award winner at the WMRC's annual banquet, held at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park earlier this month. He won both best in show for his photo, titled "Evening Rain" featuring the Prairie Dog Central, which also graced the cover of the May issue of The Lantern, the official publication of the WMRC. 


He also won best in show for his modelling efforts for is diorama, titled "Country Road Trestle over Speeder at Signal". To top it off, he also won the photo contest special event for his photo of a train crossing a bridge in Bismarck, North Dakota. Congratulations, Felix!

Felix also won the best in show award in the photo contest category or his photo of the Prairie Dog Central, title "Evening Rain".


Felix won best in show in the model category for his diorama of a speeder crossing under a country road trestle.

Paul Ullrich wins WMRC's 2026 President's shield award

Paul Ullrich receives the WMRC's President's Shield award from president John Bate at the club's 2026 AGM and banquet, held at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park on May 8.

WMRC Social Media Director Paul Ullrich was awarded the President Shield award for rebranding the club's image with his graphic design work. He has redesigned the club's logo, the logo for The Lantern, the club's official publication, the poster for the spring train show and the stickers the club hands out at train shows. 

This is the second time Paul has won this award. In 2016 he won the award for his work as social media director for the club in creating the blog and the Facebook page.

WMRC to hold it's 2026 banquet and AGM on May 8 at Canad Inns Polo Park


The WMRC will be celebrating another great model railroading season with our annual banquet. We'll be holding our AGM and presenting awards to the winners of our photo and model contests on Friday, May 8, at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park at 1405 St. Matthews Avenue in Aalto's Restaurant.

Doors open to our members and their guests at 5:00PM. Cocktails and dinner (buffet style or order from the menu) will start at 6:00PM, and the AGM will begin at 7:30PM. We’ll have plenty of our famous raffles featuring some great model railroad equipment, including our popular “arm's length” raffle ticket prizes, where you buy your arm’s length of tickets! Hope to see you all there!

Ian Plett recieves the president's shield award at the WMRC's AGM

Ian Plett received the president's shield award for his service to the club from outgoing President Wayne Hilsden at the WMRC's AGM and banquet, held at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park on May 12. Ian has been a tireless workhorse, serving simultaneously as vice president, spring show chair and public relations director.  He also serves as the superintendent of the NMRA No.1 Northern Division. No one deserves the award more than him!

John Bate sweeps awards at Winnipeg Model Railroad Club’s AGM

 WMRC treasurer John Bate was the big winner at the club’s annual AGM and banquet, held at the CanAd Inns Destination Centre Polo Park on May 13. He received the President’s shield from outgoing President Bob Harrison for his many contributions to the organization through the years. John also won awards in three model categories. He won for diesel and other power, freight cars and non revenue cars, and the special event. Way to go, John!

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club announces winners of annual photo contest

The winners of the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club’s annual photo contest are Felix Lesiuk and Luca Matyas. The contest was held at the club’s annual open house, held at the Charleswood Legion on April 9 and 10, 2022. Plaques were awarded to them at the club's AGM and  banquet, held at the CanAd Inn Destination Centre near Polo Park.

Long time member Felix Lesiuk won in the prototype category with a stunning image of a worker servicing a Via Rail passenger train in Churchill in a snowy day. Luca Mayas, a newcomer to the club and one of our youngest members, won in the model category with his image of a CN diesel rounding a corner. Congratulations to both of our winners!

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club to hold its first AGM and banquet in three years

We're holding our first AGM and banquet in three years! It will be on Friday, May 13 at CanAd Inns Destination Centre Polo Park at 1430 St. Matthews Avenue. We have assembled a lot of great prizes.

1) Elimination draw. A maximum of 35 tickets will be sold at $5 each. One at a time will be eliminated until the winners are found. Each ticket may be designated for one of two prizes:
      New HO scale Rapido locomotive with DCC and Sound. CN GMD SW1200RS $278.00 value
      New N scale Atlas  BNSF Dash 8-40 $115.00 value
2) Special Draw. We have one of Tyler Fedoroshyn's HO scale Jordan Spreaders. These are very nice, and valued at $100. A limited number of tickets will be sold at $5 each.
3) Door prizes. Everyone (member and/or guest) is automatically entered for these. We will have two $20 gift certificates for Vector Garden Trains. They have many items in all scales, and anything from the Walther's Catalog may be ordered.
4) Arm's-length tickets for the prize table. Buy a string of tickets as long as your arm for $5. There will be a table of at least 30 prizes of many types. Each winner drawn will choose any prize they like from the table, and drawing will continue until all prizes are given away.

Come and relax and have a good time with your fellow club members and their guests.Meet and greet starts at 5:00. The meeting starts at 7:30 after we've all had supper. The buffet at the CanAd Inn is fantastic! You've got to be there!

Three winners for the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's non-revenue model contest

The WMRC's non-revenue model contest category has garnered three winners this year. Aaron Woloshyn won first place for his HO model of a CN rail welding car, seen in the above image. Aaron was the big winner this year, coming away with seven awards in several different categories. Aaron also won third place in this category for his model of a CN rail section car (seen below). He also won the Clark Summers award for this same model.

Godfrey South won second place for his unique model of an HO gauge MOW blacksmith car (also seen below). Richard Mikolayenko won honourable mention for his N gauge model of an MOW car.

The awards for all categories will be presented at the club's annual banquet, which will be held on Friday, May 13 at Aalto's Garden Cafe at the Canad Inns Destination Centre at 1034 Elizabeth Road. The fun starts at 6:00PM, and along with the awards presentation, we'll have plenty of raffles and giveaways. Hope to see you there!
