Murray Brown wins five model contest awards

Murray Brown, who walked away with the WMRC’s 2025 President’s Shield award and the Robert Weaver memorial award for the second year in a row, also swept the club’s annual model contest with no less than five awards. 

Murray won first, second and third place in the motive power category for his models of the CP 5369 diesel, a Kershaw ballast regulator and a Via Rail bus. He also won second place in the freight car category for his model of an air dump car. He also won the coveted best in show award for his unique diorama of a track with culverts. 

Murray won so many awards at the WMRC’s annual banquet that other some members joked that he should’ve chosen a seat closer to the podium, and that he was going to have to rent a truck to carry off all off the awards that he won that night. Congratulations, Murray!

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club to hold its first AGM and banquet in three years

We're holding our first AGM and banquet in three years! It will be on Friday, May 13 at CanAd Inns Destination Centre Polo Park at 1430 St. Matthews Avenue. We have assembled a lot of great prizes.

1) Elimination draw. A maximum of 35 tickets will be sold at $5 each. One at a time will be eliminated until the winners are found. Each ticket may be designated for one of two prizes:

      New HO scale Rapido locomotive with DCC and Sound. CN GMD SW1200RS $278.00 value

      New N scale Atlas  BNSF Dash 8-40 $115.00 value

2) Special Draw. We have one of Tyler Fedoroshyn's HO scale Jordan Spreaders. These are very nice, and valued at $100. A limited number of tickets will be sold at $5 each.

3) Door prizes. Everyone (member and/or guest) is automatically entered for these. We will have two $20 gift certificates for Vector Garden Trains. They have many items in all scales, and anything from the Walther's Catalog may be ordered.

4) Arm's-length tickets for the prize table. Buy a string of tickets as long as your arm for $5. There will be a table of at least 30 prizes of many types. Each winner drawn will choose any prize they like from the table, and drawing will continue until all prizes are given away.

Come and relax and have a good time with your fellow club members and their guests.Meet and greet starts at 5:00. The meeting starts at 7:30 after we've all had supper. The buffet at the CanAd Inn is fantastic! You've got to be there!

 

Jason Shron coming to Winnipeg Model Railroad Club this Wednesday

Mark your calendars! Cancel any previous engagements! Rapido's Jason Shron is returning to the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club this Wednesday! Jason is making another exclusive presentation for the club at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park at 1405 St. Matthews Avenue at 7:00PM on Wednesday, August 14. Admission is free, and everyone is invited! Not a member? Not a problem! Guests are always warmly welcomed.

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club to hold their annual banuet on May 10

The WMRC is winding up another great season with our annual banquet! We'll also be holding our annual general meeting and presenting awards to the winners of our photo and model contests. It's being held on Friday, May 10, at the Canad Inns Polo Park in Alto's Restaurant, which is located at 1405 St. Matthews Avenue. The Hotel puts on a wonderful buffet with a large choice of foods. You can also order from a menu. 

Cocktails and dinner will start at 6:00PM, and the AGM will begin at 7:30PM. There will be a great many prizes  up for grabs again this year, not to mention the ever popular elimination draw for one HO Athearn Genesis CN GP38-2W complete with DCC and sound.  The second prize is an N scale  Atlas BNSF Dash 8-408W. Ticket sales are five bucks each, and they will be limited to 60. Buy an arms length of tickets for five bucks for a chance at winning one or more of over 40 prizes of HO and N scale rolling stock, buildings and scenery effects. Hope to see you all there!

Great times at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's 2018 banquet

Fun times were to be had at the WMRC's 2018 annual banquet, held at the CanAd Inns Polo Park on Friday, May 11, 2018. After enjoying a great buffet meal at Aalto's, several awards were given out and lots of prizes were won for our "arms length" raffle, the elimination draw and our door prizes! It's always a great way to end the model railroad season, and after we all have an enjoyable summer of rail fanning, we're all looking forward seeing everyone again at our next meeting in September!
