Take a ride on the Assiniboine Valley Railway this September weekend

The Assiniboine Valley Railway is holding their fourth public open house of the year this weekend. Celebrate the coming of fall by taking a train ride through the beautiful forested canopy of the AVR!

They're open from 11:00AM to 5:00PM on Saturday, September 8, and from 1:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, September 9. A ride costs two bucks and you can buy a 12 ride pass for only $20! Kids two years of age and under ride for free. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. The AVR is located at 3001 Roblin Boulevard, just west of Assiniboine Park.

Our annual banquet and AGM will be held at the CN Claude Mongeau National Training Centre (CN Campus), 650 Pandora Ave E. in Transcona. Please note that the date has been moved to Thursday, May 9. Doors open at 5:30. Dinner catered by The Olive Garden, will be served at 6:00PM. There will be no charge for the meal. There will be a tour of the facilities after dinner, AGM and awards presentations. This is a MEMBERS ONLY event. Please contact Larry Leavens no later than April 30 if you plan to attend.

The Gateway Western and the Winnipeg Railway Museum are still closed

Midwestern Railway Association has signed a 25 year lease with VIA which will allow the Winnipeg Railway Museum to stay in its current location. Now that the lease has been secured the museum will be looking at getting grants to upgrade the building to meet code requirements for an occupancy permit. This may involve some structural changes to the Gateway to meet code. Presently, there are no details on what needs to be done. The museum is still under renovations so there is no access to the Gateway at this time.

ABOUT THE WINNIPEG MODEL RAILROAD CLUB

The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club is a non-profit incorporated club with a purpose to promote the interest, knowledge, operation and enjoyment of model railroading and related photography. It is a voluntary organization governed by an elected executive with members-in-good-standing holding voting privileges. Elections occur during the April meeting. The club welcomes guests interested in model railroading and associated interests to its meetings with the aim of helping them enjoy themselves so much that they'll want to come back. Regardless of your skill level or area of interest, there is something for everybody. The club emphasizes education and entertainment, so you'll learn a great deal, meet new friends and have fun!
