Our good friend Tony Prud'homme over at the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks is having his birthday blowout and the shop's first annual swap meet this Saturday, July 4! Tony's reached the big 6-0, and the handsome devil sure doesn't look it! Come on down to the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM and join in on the celebration!

Come learn about T-Trak module building at the Frog and Diamond on April 27

The Peg City Rail Joiners Club will be hosting Dave Pomarenski for the first in a series about N scale T-Trak modules. Part one will be the introduction, starting from the module. The meeting takes place at the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks, 361 Bowman Avenue, on Monday April 27th, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

 

Jason Golebioski presents two workshops on epoxy water techniques at Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks

Peg City Rail Joiners will be presenting another workshop by Jason Golebioski on Monday, March 16th at 6:30PM at Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks. Jason will be doing a two part series demonstrating techniques in epoxy water scenes and effects.  Part two will be presented on March 23rd at 6:30PM.  All are welcome, free to Peg City Rail Joiners club members.  Non-members are asked to consider a donation. Jason Golebioski to hold a ground cover clinic at Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks

The Peg City Rail Joiners is hosting a clinic by Jason Golebioski, who will talk about ground cover. The event happens on Monday, February 23rd from 6:30PM to 8:00PM at Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks, 301 Bowman Avenue. Everyone is welcome. The event is free for members of the Peg City Rail Joiners. Non-members encouraged to make a donation.

WinNtrak will be at Garden City Shopping Centre from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19.

This weekend is going to be a great one for model railroaders! WinNtrak will be operating their modular layout at the Garden City Shopping Centre from Friday, October 17th through Sunday, October 19th. You can catch their spectacular N Gauge layout on Friday from 10 AM to 9 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and on Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM. 

And on Sunday, October 19, Jason Shron, CEO of Rapido Trains, will be making a special appearance for a public meet and greet at Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks! He’ll be there from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM to chat with customers. He’ll also be bringing along a few of his latest products. Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks is located at 301 Bowman Avenue in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club holds another great clinic carnival and Christmas hot dog banquet

What a great Christmas party we had on Friday the 13th! Rod Sarna, John Bate, Larry Leaven, Ian Plett and Marvin Fetch put on five great clinics for our annual clinic carnival while our members and distinguished guests feasted on expertly prepared gourmet hot dogs prepared by our master chef Mark McLellan! We even had a few former members, such as Ian and Zenon Lisakowski, drop by and join in on the fun!

Manitoba T-Trak is the newest modular railway club in town

 The crew of Manitoba T-Track are seen displaying at the Frog and Diamond's open house on July 6.

There’s a new N gauge modular railway group in town, and they’re looking good! Manitoba T-Trak was formed last year by Johannie Matusalem, Eric Dawson and Sean Morris.

This is not a group that has huge, hulking modules that have to be transported by truck and trailer and take several people hours to set up. T-Trak modules are very small. A standard module is only 12” wide, and the length can vary from 8 1/2” to 14 3/8”. A single module an easily fit into a briefcase. A typical modular display can easily be set up and run on a banquet table.

The group has already displayed at he WMRC’s annual spring open house and at the Frog And Diamond Hobbyworks open house this summer. They’re also going to be setting up at the Manitoba Mega Train Show in September. So drop by and take a look at this truly unique modular group when you go to Mega Train!

 

 

This corner module is just 14 3/8" square. The module next to it measures 12" x 14 3/8".

Frog and Diamond Hobby Works opens the Rail City Joiners Club in their basement

There was another great event for model railroaders on Saturday, July 6 besides the viewing of the CPKC 2816 Empress steam engine, and that was at the Frog and Diamond Hobby Works! Owner Tony Prud’homme fixed up his basement, which will house four layouts.

Tony has organized an in-house club, and those who join will be able to operate any one of the layouts. He held a contest to name the club. The winning name was the Peg City Rail Joiners Club.

To celebrate the opening (which was also on his birthday) Tony pulled out all the stops and served up hot dogs, chips, drinks and other snacks. He also had a 1950’s Winnipeg Transit bus courtesy of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association decked out in classic orange and yellow colours parked outside for public viewing.

Customers received a 10% discount on all purchases. They could also take their chance by spinning the “Turntable of Temptations” (an N scale turntable with a engine attached to it) to get a greater, or possibly a smaller discount. Judging by Tony’s groans every time someone spun the turntable, a lot of folks got a bigger discount!

Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks to hold grand opening of ther train room on July 6

If you’re going out to the Weston yards to see the CPKC 2816 on July 6, then why not make it a complete train day and stop over to the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks too! They’ll be holding the grand opening their train room in their basement, featuring several operating layouts in various scales, ranging from HO to N to T-track!

The shop is also creating a special group independent of the store where members will be able to operate the layouts. Owner Tony Prud’homme also plans to hold clinics for the members. A contest has been held to name the group, and the name will be announced on July 6.

Everything in the store will be 10% off on July 6. You also have the option of spinning the turntable of temptation, where you try your luck and might get an even bigger discount!

Tony’s birthday is also on July 6, so be sure to say (or sing) happy birthday to him. You can even bring him a card!

The Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks has a great train mural on both sides of their store at 301 Bowman Avenue in Elmwood. It was painted by local artist Stephen Dueck. It’s his very first mural, and he did a great job!
 

What a party! Details of the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks customer appreciation day revealed

Wow! What a party the Frog and Diamond is going to have on July 8! The fully restored 1979 Orion One museum bus from the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association will be on display from 1PM to 3PM. A newly completed wall mural will be on display, plus hot dogs, prizes, an in-store sale and free Slurpees from the 7-11 Slurpee truck will be handed out  from 1PM to 2PM. So come on down to the Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks on Saturday, July 8 and join in on the fun! They're at 301 Bowman Avenue in beautiful downtown Elmwood. They're open from 10AM to 5PM Tuesdays to Saturdays, and from 10AM to 8PM on Monday.

The Frog and Diamond Hobbyworks is holding a customer appreciation day on Saturday, July 8. The store, which specializes in new and used HO and N gauge model railroad equipment, debuted at last year’s Manitoba Mega Train Show and opened its shop at 301 Bowman Avenue in Elmwood shortly afterwards. They also carry model airplane kits and supplies.

New hobby shop opening in Winnipeg on October 1

Great news! A new hobby shop specializing in model trains is opening in Winnipeg on Saturday, October 1. It's called The Frog and Diamond, and that may sound like an English pub, but it's an inside joke for model railroaders and rail fans. 

This is the first hobby shop of its kind in decades to open in Winnipeg. Many of you might've stopped by his table at the Manitoba Mega Train Show to find out about the shop and perhaps buy a few items that they had for sale. Be sure to be at the grand opening of his store on October 1! It's  at 301 Bowman Avenue, just east of Henderson Highway, in beautiful downtown Elmwood. Their hours are from 10 to 5.
