Ian Plett recieves the president's shield award at the WMRC's AGM

Ian Plett received the president's shield award for his service to the club from outgoing President Wayne Hilsden at the WMRC's AGM and banquet, held at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park on May 12. Ian has been a tireless workhorse, serving simultaneously as vice president, spring show chair and public relations director.  He also serves as the superintendent of the NMRA No.1 Northern Division. No one deserves the award more than him!
 

Felix Lesiuk and Barry Ceran are the winners of the WMRC's 2023 annual photo contest

The entries of Felix Lesiuk and Barry Ceran won the WMRC's 2023 annual photo contest, held at the club's open house on April 22 and 23. The judging of the contest was presided by WMRC librarian Bart Hasselfield. 

Felix won in the prototype category with his dramatic image of a CP freight at sunset passing by a stubble fire in a farmer's field. Barry won in the model category with his image of a model of a Via rail passenger train barreling around a curve in a highly detailed layout, which showed great depth of perception. Congratulations, guys! You've earned it!
 

Joe Krawchenko wins the WMRC's Atlas Urkaine boxcar raffle

Joe Krawchenko is the winner of the WMRC’s Ukraine boxcar raffle, held at the club’s open house on April 22 and 23. The Atlas boxcar was donated by former WMRC librarian Bart Hasselfield. Proceeds of the raffled will be donated to a Ukraine relief fund.

Joe was a long time member of the club. He won several modelling awards in the WMRC’s annual model contests for his scratch built models of grain silos and other grain handling storage units, which were fabricated entirely out of metal from tin cans.

Joe is the brother of Sandi Krawchenko Alter, former broadcaster, investigative journalist and winner of the 2012 Carol Shields Winnipeg book award for her novel, Ravenscraig.

 

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club to hold their AGM and annual banquet on May 12

The WMRC is winding up another great season with our annual banquet! We'll be holding our AGM and presenting awards to the winners of our photo and model contests. It's being held on Friday, May 12, at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park in Aalto's Restaurant, which is located at 1405 St. Matthews Avenue.

Cocktails and dinner (buffet style or order from the menu) will start at 6:00PM, and the AGM will begin at 7:30PM. We’ll have plenty of our famous raffles featuring some great model railroad equipment, including our popular “arm's length” raffle ticket prizes, where you buy your arm’s length of tickets!
