Dave Downie shares vintage railfan photos from the 80's

At a recent monthly digital photo display at a WMRC Zoom meeting, program director Dave Downie shared some unique photos that he took on a rail fanning trip in Beacon, New York in 1980. He caught some great images of motive power from fallen flags such as the Delaware and Hudson, Boston and Maine and Lehigh Valley. Dave took these images using a 35MM camera, back in the days when you had just 36 images per roll and you couldn't see what you shot until the prints (or the slides) came back from the lab!

It's a train! It's a cake! It's a cake train!

And now for something completely different! For WMRC member Neil Carleton's 65th birthday, his wife Nancy Allan presented him with a cake in the shape of a CP switcher in the classic maroon and grey paint scheme. The cake was made at the Munch It Pastry Shop at 67 Goulet Street in the Dominion Centre in St. Boniface.

Nancy took a picture of one of Neil's engines and the bakers did a sterling job of recreating it by using just cake and icing. They really nailed the colors! The lettering are decals stuck on to the icing.

3d printing and a living room layout featured at Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's March virtual meeting

At our next Zoom meeting Tyler Fedoroshyn will conduct a presentation on modelling with the aid of a 3D printer. Learn how 3D printing can be used to create realistic parts that aren’t available commercially. Tyler took the leap into 3D printing and has made a number of unique items for his model railroad. He will give an overview of his printer and the software he uses and show a number of items he has printed.

Then Christopher Robinson will display his unique model railroad that replicates the Algoma Central's operations in Hawk Junction, Ontario. He'll describe the design and operation of the layout. Christopher has built a portable model railroad that captures the essence of the ACR, is fun to operate and occupies a place of prominence in his living room.

We will be holding our members monthly photo display. An entry will be chosen by random, and will receive a $20 gift certificate.

The Zoom meeting starts at 7:30PM on Friday, March12. If you are not a member and wish to attend this meeting, please contact us at wmrc.trainclub@gmail.com. Guests (even virtual ones) are always warmly welcomed!

Tyler made all of these parts using a 3D printer. See how he did it at our March meeting!

Janzen's Paint and Decorating stores in Manitoba also carry model railroad supplies

WMRC Vice President Ian Plett sent us these images of the model railroad equipment in Janzens' Paint and Decorating in Steinbach, Manitoba.

We're getting more and more great leads on where to get model railroad supplies in Manitoba, and all across Canada! In Steinbach,  Janzen’s Paint and Decorating has a pretty good stock. They carry mostly HO but they also have few items in N gauge. They have stores in Brandon and Winkler that also carry model railroad equipment.

In other places in Canada, you can also check out Pacific Western Rail Systems in Surrey, B.C. , Otter Valley Railroad in Aylmer, Ontario and Canadian Express Line in Brighton, Ontario.
