Richard Mikolayenko models in one of the smallest model railroading scales

                  Richard Mikolayenko did a great job repainting this Marklin Z scale locomotive.

Long time WMRC member Richard Mikolayenko recently brought in a Marklin Z scale locomotive that he has been working on to our monthly model display.

Yes, Z scale. It was introduced by Marlklin in 1972. Its scale  is 1:220, with a track gauge of 6.5 mm, or .256 inches. To put that into perspective, N scale is 1:144, and HO scale is a gigantic 1:87. Believe it or not, there is an even smaller scale than Z called T scale, which is 1:450.

Richard repainted the shell of a Marklin Mini-Club locomotive. He painted the body black and the grab irons white with a brush (you can get away with that in Z scale) and spray painted the roof.

Richard Mikolayenko, an undisputed master of modelling in miniature, brought these five Z scale building kits that he's been working on for our monthly model display at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's March meeting, held on March 9. To give you an idea on exactly how small these models are, we placed a dime next to them. Now that's small!

The WMRC holds a regular monthly non-competitive model display at their meetings. All members are invited to bring something they've been working on to display to the club.

 We proudly accept all types and gauges of model railroads in our club, even Lego! Tommy South, one of our youngest members, built this fine Lego MOW inspection vehicle, which is displayed on WMRC Blog Editor Paul Ullrich's O gauge Lionel portable layout.

 Long time WMRC member and retired CN engineer Marcel Blair displayed some G scale trains at the show. They're bigger than most model railroad gauges, but still small than the ones he was used to handling when he was at work!

 One of the most popular displays at the show was the Women of Model Railroading exhibit, showcasing the amazing talents of our club's female modellers.

Right behind Marcel Blair's massive G scale display was Suzanne Lemon's Z scale layout, which is by far the smallest model railroad gauge commercially available.
