Virginia Braun displays two structures at Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's monthly model display

WMRC member Virginia Braun displayed a Walthers Cornerstone Laser cut Pump house kit at our December meeting. She painted both sides with a mixture of India Ink and 99% isopropyl alcohol, which prevents warping. She assembled it using Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue, which dries clear. She then weathered the walls by dry brushing them with white acrylic paint.


She also displayed Pete’s Market, an Osborn Model Kit. To prevent warping she used a stain marker to paint the inside floor. The outside walls were painted with acrylic paint. She used an acrylic grey wash for the front step.

The fruit stands were just put together and then the fruits and vegetables were painted. She carefully removed the excessive laser burns around the windows and other parts of the kit.

It's Clinic Carnival time at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's December meeting!

Virginia Braun – Virginia is a very talented modeller who will showcase some of her structure and scenery work and talk about the tools and materials that she uses.

Richard Mikolayenko – Scratch building and Old Market Square structure from photos and triangulation. Richard is an experienced modeller who will showcase his techniques as he works to replicate a historic Winnipeg building.

Neil Carlton - “Painting undecorated HO figurines for fun and financial savings" Every model railroad needs people and Neil will explain how to populate a scene without breaking your bank account.

Christopher Robinson - “Modules” Every model railroader can make a module. Whether it be a portable section of a home layout or for a portable modular model railroad, modules give us a unique way to participate in the hobby.  

John Bate - “Using Servos as inexpensive switch machines”. John will demonstrate how you can utilize inexpensive servo motors as switch machines. Servos are rapidly becoming as a means of controlling switches, signals and applications requiring animation on model railroads.

But wait! There's more! We're also holding our annual Christmas banquet! Enjoy a hearty meal of hot dogs, chips and pop as you enjoy the Clinic Carnival! The fun begins on Friday, December 14, at 7:30 in the Tank Room at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Boulevard. Guests are always warmly welcomed!

 
 

It's time for the WMRC's annual clinic carnival!

Step right up and join us for our annual Clinic Carnival! Once again we have some great clinics held by some of Winnipeg's finest model railroaders. Ian Plett will be demonstrating how to use Decoder Pro and Wi Throttle. Virginia Braun will be holding a clinic on structures. Larry Leavens will show you how to work with styrene, and John Bate will hold a clinic about using Fast Tracks Turnouts.

We'll also be having a 50/50 draw and the canteen will be open! But there will be no model display this month due to the Clinic Carnival. The fun starts on Friday, February 9 at  7:30 P.M. in the Tank Room at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Robin Boulevard. Not a member? Not a problem! Guests are always warmly welcomed! Everyone had a great time at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's annual Klinic Karnival

Six of Winnipeg's best model railroaders were on hand at the WMRC's meeting on December 11 to share their skills at the club's annual Klinic Karnival. Ian Plett demonstrated how to install DCC in an Athearn locomotive. WMRC Program Director Morgan Turney showed how to make realistic trees out of common plants and weeds.

Ron Einarson showed off his exceptional talents of modelling with wood, Aaron Woloshyn held a clinic on making hydro poles, and Richard Mikolayenko showed how to scratchbuild styrene models using photo references. Virginia Braun held a clinic on building station kits. She gave some great modelling hints on how to model realistic looking stucco using Elmer's Glue, toilet paper, and an egg beater!

And it was hot dog night! Every December, the club holds their "Christmas banquet" of hot dogs, chips and pop at their monthly meeting. Much thanks to our canteen staff - Jean and Godfrey South, and their children, Frances and Tommy, for cooking and serving up such a great meal!

The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's annual model contest was held on March 15 - 16, 2014 at the club's open house at Westworth United Church. There were 23 model entries from seven WMRC members.

December meeting's model display

The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's monthly model display is held at every meeting by the No. 1 Northern Division of the NMRA. To qualify for the monthly prize, you must show that you've done some assembly or weathering. Each entry must include a short write-up describing the work that has been finished to date.

 Ron Einarson, the modeller's modeller, displayed an L&N coal unloading trestle.

 Ron also displayed some steel drums which he hand-painted in prototype colours. Is he going

 to put them on his layout, or is he going to start a miniature Caribbean steel drum band?

 Ron displayed a Walthers logging truck, which was a resin kit that he assembled mostly at 

Gooch's open house in November.

 Gino Kost displayed a 50' Canstock car. This type of car was designed specifically to
 haul aluminum or steel coils for the manufacturing of canned food products. 

Virginia Braun displayed this well detailed hen house, complete with chickens!
