MMR Gerry Leone to make a presentation on model railroad photography at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club’s January meeting

We’re kicking off the new year with a special presentation by MMR Gerry Leone! Gerry just might be the closest thing we have to a superstar in the world of Model Railroading. Gerry has had numerous articles published in Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman. He's hosted three series on Trains.com, “Off the Rails”, “Back on Track”, and “Spaces to Places”.

Gerry has made many appearances at model railroad conventions all across the continent. He recently did three one - hour live streaming sessions with “Family Ties” star Michael Gross at a convention in Milwaukee.

Gerry will make a Zoom presentation about model railroad photography. This is your chance to learn how to take a great picture of your layout by a real expert! Gerry has won numerous awards for his model railroad photography, and his images have been published in many Model Railroading publications.

The fun starts at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 13 at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Boulevard. The canteen will be open, and we will also have our monthly model and photo displays and a 50-50 draw.  Guests are always warmly welcomed. We look forward to seeing you in person, but if you are unable to attend you can join us via Zoom. Please email us at wmrc.trainclub@gmail.com and we will send you a link.

John Bate builds an adjustable track aligner for a swing gate

WMRC treasurer John Bate submitted this model to the club’s monthly model display of a three level swing gate he is building to go across the door in his train room. It is based on a article in Model Railroader Magazine written by TLR member Gerry Leone.

John says that it may get out of alignment due to house shifting or humidity changes, but this design will allow a quick adjustment of the horizontal position. Vertical alignment is assured by a simple mechanism.

He used a 6-32 bolt, nuts an washers, a small 6-32 nut removed from a 1/8” toggle bolt, a Styrene strip and PCB ties purchased from Fast Tracks at handlaidtrack.com.

Where was everyone at the TLR regional convention in Fargo?

The Thousand Lakes Region of the NMRA held a great regional convention in Fargo, North Dakota in May. Although many members of the WMRC are also NMRA members, only three of our members attended, despite it being just a four hour drive. But Model Railroader Magazine's Cody Grivno thought it was a great convention, and he posted a video all about it on the MR website, which he and Gerry Leone hosted.

So here's what you missed:
