Portage Model Railroad Club presents 2021 Running of the Trains Day this Saturday

The Portage Model Railroad Club will be holding their 2021 Running of the Trains Day this Saturday, October 2, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Canadian Pacific railway station at Portage La Prairie, 251 3rd street north. 

Members have reported that extensive renovations and improvement have been made to the station and to the club's operating layouts and displays since their last open house was held two years ago. Come see it for yourself! It's worth the trip!

Admission is $5.00. Kids under 12 admitted for free. All visitors must be fully immunized and show proof of vaccination. Children under 12 may attend if accompanied by a fully vaccinated member of their household.

The Manitoba Mega Train Show is happening this weekend!

 

The Manitoba Mega Train Show is back, and it's happening this weekend at Red River Exhibition Place! Social distancing will be practiced. That there will be larger aisles, fewer vendors and a controlled crowd flow.  Some of the layouts will not be in their usual spots. There will be no vendors or displays from outside of Manitoba. All vendors, exhibitors and attendees over the age of 12 must be double vaccinated to attend. You must show proof of vaccination to enter. Masks are mandatory, except for children three years of age and under.

The Manitoba Mega Train Show will be held on Sept 25 & 26th this year at the Red River Exhibition Place, 3977 Portage Avenue. Hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. Admission for adults is $8.00, youths aged four to twelve $6.00, family packs $25.00. Free admission for children age three and under. Admission includes unlimited free rides on the Mega Train.

Retired dispatcher Gordon Smith relives his days at the Delaware and Hudson Railway at the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's September 17 meeting

The second clinic of our September 17 meeting will be held by Gordon Smith, a retired dispatcher for the Delaware & Hudson and Canadian Pacific. Gordon is a prolific rail fan with a treasure trove of material. His presentation will cover the D&H railroad operations over all four Subdivisions including some trackage rights shots, in the time period from 1969 until he was transferred to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1993 when CP consolidated the D&H train dispatchers with those of the SOO Line.

The meeting starts at 7:30 PM in the Tank Room at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Boulevard on September 17. Capacity at the Tank Room at the Legion is limited to 50 persons. The Legion requires all visitors to the building to show proof of full vaccination before entry. As of this writing, the province has mandated that masks will be required in all indoor public places.
