The 2024 CPKC Holiday Train is coming to town!

You better watch out, you better not cry! You better not pout, I'm telling you why! Because if you do, your mom and dad (or your wife) won't let you see the CPKC Holiday Train this year!

The train arrives in Manitoba on December 3rd. It's first stop is in Whitemouth, at the Whitemouth Hotel on Railway Avenue, at 7:00 PM. Then it arrives in Winnipeg on Panet Road and Molson Street at 9:15PM.

On December 5 the train will stop at Portage La Prairie at the CP station at 309 1st street NW Portage La Prairie from 3:00PM to 3:30PM. Then it will stop in Carberry at 4th avenue between Main Street and Simcoe from 5:15PM to 5:45PM. It rounds out the day stopping in Brandon at the field south of the CPKC tracks north of Rosner Avenue East, west of the Rosner Avenue rail crossing, from 7:00PM to 7:30PM.

On December 6 it will make its final stop in Manitoba in Virden, on the north side of tracks on 5th avenue South between Lyons street and Ashburn Street from 10:30AM to 11:00PM.

Musical guests for all of these stop are Tyler Shaw and Shawnee Kish. The Holiday Train generates critical support through the program’s support of local food banks.

Richard Mikolayenko builds a HO rural train depot

Richard Mikolayenko brought in this HO rural train depot to the club’s monthly model display at our November meeting. It was built from an Atlas kit. He spray painted the exterior wall with primer, then painted the roof with a semi-flat red colour. The doors and windows were painted brown, and the base was spray painted grey. Richard tells us that this is a work in progress, and many finer details are to follow.

Neil Carleton models a Jordan Highway Miniatures Kit of a Railway Express truck

Neil Carleton brought in this exquisitely detailed Jordan Highway Miniatures Kit of a Railway Express Agency truck to the club’s monthly model display at our last meeting, held at the Charleswood Legion on November 15.

Neil used Styrene solvent to assemble the piece and CA glue for the smaller parts. He airbrushed it with Tamyia primer, then sprayed and brush painted it, applied decals and sprayed it with Vallejo satin  varnish.

Jordan kits do not have a tab and slot or a pin and hole construction, and Neil found that it was a challenge to assemble. The rear axle was too long, so Neil drilled it out and replaced it with a short piece of wire. The front bumper mounts were too short, and he also replaced them with wire. Neil used Dspiae chrome paint and used it on the radiator trim.

MMR Lester Breuer returns to the WMRC to give us an update on improvement he's made to his Minneapolis and Northland layout

At our next meeting MMR Lester Breuer, our old friend from Plymouth, Minnesota will make a presentation on how he added the town of Randolph to the Minneapolis & Northland Railroad layout.

Lester will take us through the planning stage, benchwork, track, structures and scenery, including making a view block between towns and a backdrop.  It continues with a move of the town to a better location in the railroad room and finishes with an industry addition and a few mini scenes to add interest.

The fun begins on Friday, November 15 at 7:30PM in the Tank Room at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Boulevard. We will be holding our usual model and photo displays and the canteen will be open.

Winipeg Model Railroad Club's next meeting date has been moved to November 15

Please note that the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's next meeting will be held on Friday, November 15, at 7:30PM. We usually meet on the second Friday of the month, but that wasn't possible this November, as the Charleswood Legion, where we hold our meetings, needed the space for their Remembrance Day observances. We honor the Legion, our veterans and especially those who have fallen for the sacrifices they have made to keep our country safe and free.
